Things You Need to Know About Tuff H2O

  • The product is produced both in gloss and satin.
  • The application of this product can be done both with an applicator or a roller.

  • The Gloss levels are similar to those of solvent base polyurethane.
  • Tuff H2O should be poured into a bucket and can be applied from the bucket with either a roller or an applicator.

Floor Preparation

New Floors: With new concrete things are a little trickier then if doing an old concrete. There is a lesser chance of the new floor having contaminants in it. However, what is pertinent to the new floor is the amount of moisture that it has, ie whether enough time has passed by for the concrete to properly dry. If the moisture is under 4% by all accounts there should be no problems with applying the product on the floor. However, if there is over 4% moisture there 2 options that you can take.

  1. You can let the concrete dry a little longer to ensure the moisture has been removed.
  2. You can pick up some moisture fix products that can be used prior to placing a sealer down, the moisture fix products will ensure that the moisture will have to escape else where but not on the sur face. This will prevent any risks of the product delaminating.
Then you grind the floor and finish with 60-100 grit diamonds which would make the concrete nice and smooth. Then vacuum the area so it is dust free, then to ensure that the concrete is dust free either a wet tacky mop or a wet towel to pick up the dust that the vacuum did not pick up. Let the floor dry then apply three or four coats of Tuff H2O.

Recoating an existing Floor: Depending on the concrete and what has been previously on it you will either need to grind the floor or sand it. However, due to the nature of concrete it is always best to grind the floor. Once you have ground the floor to the smoothness (not exceeding 120 grid diamonds) that you desire you then vacuum and mop the floor lifting all the dust making the concrete both smooth and free from all possible rejections. You then apply three coats of Tuff H2O.

PLEASE NOTE: that on due to the build that you get from a water base its of outmost importance that the floor is very dust free.
