Caring for your Floors after they have been polished

  • After overnight drying, the floor may be walked on only with socks
  • After overnight drying if the floor has been properly dried it maybe subjected to very light foot traffic, but be sure for the first couple of days to avoid high heeled shoes during this period .
  • Full curing of the floor polish takes approximately 10 days, and during these days it is advised that extra care is taken to protect the coating during this time.
  • Therefore it is advisable to avoid dragging of the furniture over the floor at any time as it can easily mark or scratch the surface. Use protective pads on the bottom of all furniture legs.

Ongoing Care

  • Dirt, sand and grime are materials which can easily damage a floor coated with polyurethane (little rocks or something of that nature at the bottom of shoes) can have a similar effect as sand paper and leave scratches and marks. Therefore it is advisable to leave a mat at the front entrance in order for people to take all the possible grit of their shoes prior to entry.
  • It is also advisable when washing the floor to make sure that you have an Electrostatic Mop in order to ensure that your floor is dust and dirt free. When you have Tuff Timber Coat, Krystal Clear, it is advisable that once in 3 months to wipe the floor with 5% methylated spirits in a warm bucket of water that will ensure that your floor stays protected at all times.

Re-Coating

  • Floors are subject to different wear patterns depending on the use, traffic density, traffic paths and the purposes for which the premises or rooms are used. Although its difficult to generalise in predicting the time when a maintenance coat is desirable, it excessively to avoid the additional expense of totally re-sanding and coating the floor with a number of coats. In most cases. A regular maintenance coat after a few years will eliminate the need for more costly repairs.
